Our Purpose

Paul encourages us in Romans 12:2 (NLT) to be in but not of the world:

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

The purpose of this higher education leadership conference is to equip and inspire college and university leadership with a vision of how to effectively provide solid thoughtful Christian education to students, whose lives are immersed in this secular world.

How will SDA institutions avoid what James Burtchaell describes in his book, “The Dying of the Light: The Disengagement of Colleges and Universities from Their Christian Churches.” The book charts the history of 17 American colleges and universities that were founded by Christian denominations, and he shows that each school abandoned its religious roots.

Through interactive sessions and discussions, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to provide an education that enables students to:

  1. Live out their faith in practical ways,
  2. Engage in meaningful discussions about contemporary issues, and
  3. Learn how to effectively communicate their beliefs to others.

The goal is to educate students, the next generation of leaders, and cultivate a steadfast commitment to following, serving, and making an impact for Jesus; even in a world that will inevitably challenge their beliefs.
